IMPLANTEUS: An interdisciplinary university research school (EUR) dedicated to the sustainability of Mediterranean agriculture for human health

Background: Plant pathology unit is part of the founders (co-director and head of the teaching block on plant production) of IMPLANTEUS. The EURs are integrated Master and PhD programs associated with top-level laboratories at partner universities and research institutes. Their aim is to boost the impact and international visibility of training programs targeting specific research areas linked to major current challenges. The EUR IMPLANTEUS proposal was selected by the French government at the end of August 2019, and its activities began at the start of the 2020 academic year. Coordinated by Avignon University (AU) and INRAE Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur center in Avignon, this training program benefits from the local dynamism of around 250 researchers and engineers, as well as technical and administrative staff.

Training: EUR IMPLANTEUS is based on a common set of modules, summer schools and seminars, taught in English and organized into four thematic blocks combining plant, environmental and human health sciences, food chemistry, process science, applied mathematics and social sciences. They promote training through research, in particular through laboratory internships and a strong involvement of INRAE scientists in the programs (contribution of more than half of the total number of teaching hours for Master 1 and Master 2 programs).
EUR IMPLANTEUS also supports its students' international experience through mobility grants, visiting professorships and a dense network of foreign university partners. It also ensures the participation of numerous socio-economic partners from the agricultural and agri-food sectors in teaching and tutoring student R&D projects, and contributes to internships, professional workshops and job fairs.
