GOUSSE - TERSYS project - 2022-2023

Generate tools to sanitize the garlic industry against Fusarium

  • Funding: Federative Research Structure TERSYS
  • Project: The French garlic industry is severely affected by garlic rot, against which there is no control method. The pathogens present in French production basins have recently been identified by the project partners (Fusarium proliferatum and F. oxysporum), who have also shown the possibility of infection of cloves by a telluric inoculum (TERSYS ROCAIL project, 2018). The objective of the GOUSSE project is to provide the French industry with technological processes to improve the sanitary quality of garlic seed and consumption with respect to cloves rot, without having to use chemical plant protection products. To this end, the GOUSSE project proposes to 1) evaluate the susceptibility of certified varieties to garlic rot, 2) test the hypothesis of infection of cloves by airborne inoculum, 3) develop tools for early detection of the agents responsible for this disease in garlic batches, and 4) develop alternative methods to chemical phytosanitary products for eliminating Fusarium from cloves.
