Bana+ - PARSADA project - 2025-2029

Accelerating the development of banana cultivars resistant to fungal diseases to reduce pesticide use in the French Antilles.

  • Funding: programme PARSADA du Ministère de l’agriculture et de la souveraineté alimentaire
  • Project: The production of bananas without fungicides in DROMs requires varieties that are resistant to fungal diseases and in particular to black leaf streak (black sigatoka). CIRAD has developed a platform for varietal creation whose potential to create new multiresistant hybrids has been proven and is unmatched at the international level.
The objective of the Bana+ project is to support this platform with new methods and tools to accelerate the release of new varieties combining multiresistance and fruit quality and meeting the expectations of producers and the market. This project will be carried out in an expanded partnership framework with a consortium associating research (CIRAD, INRAE), a company specialized in micropropagation of bananas and development of innovations in support of banana cultivation (VITROPIC).
