PRICE - CASDAR project - 2023-2027

Managing and reducing the use of chemical inputs in strawberry and cucumber production

  • Funding: France Agrimer
  • Project: The evolution of societal demands is encouraging more environmentally-friendly production, implying a reduction in the use of synthetic mineral fertilizers and phytosanitary products. In this context, the INRAE Plant Pathology unit is assessing the effect of different levels of nitrogen fertilization on pest pressure (aphids and powdery mildew) in cucumber and strawberry crops. The objectives of the PRICE project on strawberry and cucumber crops are to:
    • Design and validate nitrogen fertilization management tools.
    • Reduce the use of chemical inputs (fertilizers and pesticides) by mobilizing several levers: precise control of fertilization, replacement of synthetic and mineral fertilizers by organic fertilizers, and optimization of fertilization to limit pest pressure.
    • Ensure the sustainability of the strawberry and cucumber sectors by proposing production solutions that are more sustainable, both economically and environmentally.
    • Encourage the transfer of these technical itineraries to the profession and the educational system.
